Los Morillos Lighthouse
El Faro was constructed in 1882 by the Spanish. Los Morrillos Lighthouse is one of the most popular attractions of Cabo Rojo. The immense red stone cliffs are very impressive. Once you climb the hill you can enjoy breathtaking views of a beautiful crescent shape bay beach with calm, blue clear waters. This often secluded bay at the Lighthouse is perfect for families and couples seeking relaxation. The Salt Flats - "Las Salinas"
Las Salinas is located on the road to the lighthouse right across from Bahia Salinas. This attraction is surely worth a stop, the scenery is beautiful and quite amazing to see how the salt is collected. The sparkle of the dried salt is as the sun touches it is gorgeous. *The salterns are composed of estuary surrounded by natural mats that feds a series of artificial salt ponds with seawater. The Salt Flats have been functioning since 1525 according to historian Salvador Brau. *The coastal line borders sub-sea levels basins with inflow from the sea. Isla Ratones
Isla Ratones is great for snorkeling and has a beach with white soft sands and it is great for bathing. You can get to the island on a short boat ride from Joyuda. After a fun day at Isla Ratones, go to one of the restaurants in Joyuda to feast on the best and freshest seafood on the island of Puerto Rico.
Isla Mona - Mona Island
Not many know about La Isla Mona, which is often called "The Galapagos of the Caribbean" and the "Caribbean's Best Secret" Most tourists often think of Puerto Rico's beaches and towns as crowded and very populated. Well, this is no San Juan, Isla Mona is in fact very populated but by a variety of animals. The underwater world is paradise for snorkeler and scuba divers. The coral reefs are very healthy and Isla Mona is among the top scuba and snorkeling spots in the Caribbean.
La Plaza - "Where Good Friends Meet"
If you happen to visit a couple of pueblos (towns) in Puerto Rico you will notice that there is a Plaza in each. At the Plaza people gather to talk to friends, sit down for a little rest from shopping around the small family owned stores around the town. Usually the Fiestas Patronales are held at the plaza and some concerts and town festivities are also held here throughout the year. At the plaza you will always find the town's catholic church, the flags of Puerto Rico and the town and some symbolic statue of an important historic personality for the town. Yes, one of the attractions in Cabo Rojo are the spectacular sunsets. There is no better place to watch the sun go down on the island of Puerto Rico than Cabo Rojo. One of the best places for sunsets is in Joyuda, where you can enjoy the best fresh seafood on the island with the bonus of a picture perfect sunset. The Wildlife Refuge of Cabo Rojo
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Refuge established in 1974 maintains 587 acres of subtropical dry forest. While there go to the visitor center at the Refuge office with has a small museum where you can learn about the flora and fauna in the area. You can hike the 2 mile trail where you will be introduced to the refuge's many natural resources. There are also 12 miles great for hiking where nature lovers can enjoy sights of birds and observe wildlife. Don't forget your camera!!
