The Salt Flats
Cabo
Rojo, PR
Please take some time and visit this wonderful area, it is truly a beautiful sight.
There is an observation tower where you can enjoy 360 degree views of the
Caribbean sea, the lighthouse, the salt flats and the wildlife refuge; a
beautifully well-kept bird sanctuary.
The Salt Flats have been functioning since 1525 according to historian Salvador Brau.

Las Salinas is located on the road to the lighthouse right
across from Bahia Salinas. This attraction is surely worth a stop, the scenery
is beautiful and quite interesting to see how the salt is collected and it
sparks as the sun kisses it.
The salterns are
composed of estuary surrounded by natural mats that feeds a series of
artificial salt ponds with seawater. The coastal line borders sub-sea levels
basins with inflow from the sea. The prevalence of high solar radiation and the
scarcity of rain during most of the year promotes the formation of hyper saline
environment.
