Cabo Rojo Beaches
Playa Sucia
Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico / Porta del Sol
Playa Sucia is simply picture postcard perfect with it's white soft sands and turquoise waters that slope gently downward towards the Caribbean. Not only is the beach perfect but you feel secure and safe by the strong tall limestone cliffs proudly displaying the lighthouse Los Morillos that you can appreciate from a short distance. The waters at La Playuela are very calm, warm, with shades of blue and green that are mostly crystal clear on a sunny day.

From all the beaches in Cabo Rojo this is my favorite. Playa Sucia is not the most popular beach in Cabo Rojo and honestly I hope it stays that way. Locals and Puerto Ricans seeking for beach fun in the summers flock to the most popular beaches like El Combate, Buye and Vieques and Culebra.During the week this beach is usually quiet with very few visitors, on the weekends and Easter week (when photos were taken) it can get pretty full but still just as fun and relaxing to be there.

Hightlights of Playa Sucia & Visiting Tips

Getting to Playa Sucia
Getting to Playa Sucia is part of the fun (in my opinion). The way there is a bumpy dirt road and depending on the rain fall it could be really bumpy, muddy or smooth. On the way there you will drive by the observatory tower where you can enjoy gorgeous views of the mountains, Caribbean Sea and a close up of Las Salinas (Salt Flats). You will pass the Wildlife Refuge, you may notice many types of birds since this area is a protected natural sanctuary. You will also pass a little bridge where there are remnants of an old railroad track which I heard many stories from my father. If you are renting a car, then we recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Locals have been going there for many years and I personally got there in regular cars and we were fine.
