Cabo Rojo's
Recreation Plaza
Where Good
Friends Meet
The Plaza is the place
where good old friends meet to talk about family, the highlights of
their day and to play a good game of dominos; the favorite pastime
among the "abuelitos" grandpas in town. Go to the Plaza at night and
see how time seems to have stood still where getting together with
family, looking at the stars, talking and laughing is still the
favorite pass time and hobby among locals.
The
Plaza is the center of history, the home of the "fiestas patronales",
music, traditions, religion, yummy sweets, shopping, limbers, cafe
con leche "cappuccino".
 Don't
leave town without trying a piragua, a typical refreshing
desert made of shaved ice and delicious syrups in a variety of
tropical fruit flavors.
You
have to try some of the traditional "dulces"
(candy) of Puerto Rico and learn "how sweet it is to be loved by
Cabo Rojo". If you love JAVA (coffee) make sure you ask for a
cappuccino (cafe con leche) I guarantee you it is the best cup of
coffee in town topped with whipped cream and a whole stick of
cinnamon for a special touch.
Don't
be shy to say hola and stand around a group of old friends playing
dominoes with much gusto (excitement). Many towns in Puerto
Rico still have managed to keep the simple things in life at the
center of their everyday life such as simply spending time with
friends and family.

A
great time to go to the plaza is on the evening, it seems to look at
its best, the lights give the plaza and the church a glowing look.
You will find families gathered around and sitting on benches, kids
having fun and feeding the many pigeons on the ground.
So if you come visit Cabo Rojo, please do take the
time to visit the Plaza on an afternoon or cool evening.
